Presentation by Charles “Chuck” Requet, Mechanical Engineer/ Generation Engineering, Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company at MaintenanceCon, Chicago, 2019.
Internet of Things (IoT) solutions are a tool that can help maintenance professionals keep assets running. By connecting assets to internet-based enterprise software, monitoring and diagnostics centers can share and view data from any computer that has access to the secure utility network.
Will the bearing make it to the next planned outage? The answer is in the data, assuming you have the right data, and the faster you get the answer the faster you can get on to solving other problems.
In this presentation, we will demonstrate how Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utilities implemented a system to capture the right data and the workflow for interpreting data before and after the online monitoring system was installed. You will also see an overall system architecture and how the team integrated the new system with existing software tools on which LG&E and KU had already standardized.
Finally, you will hear lessons learned and best practices when it comes to software integration, working with IT, data naming conventions, and standard operating procedures for setting up equipment.
